Hey all, I wrote a short story this morning (at like 4am) and haven’t done so in ages. Its kinda scary thinking about it and I hate actually reading things back and I hate it even more having other people read it. But no point keeping it to myself, tell me what ya think! -
A short story by Sean o'sullivan-davey -
I've always wanted people to read what I write, but always been too afraid that people will reject me. But when I heard about Hubbard hills I just had to put pen to paper and write. So I bring you - The Darkness of Hubbard Hills.
There was no fog on the lake. Just a dirty grey mist. Melissa took this walk every day. But for some reason this day was different. The lack of fog perhaps, she thought to herself. Slowly strolling down by the lake, she looked over and saw a figure in the distance. She stopped suddenly and stared right across at the figure.
The figure crawled along the water, like a ghost floating through the air. Melissa stood there, frozen on the spot at what she was seeing. The figure edged closer to Melissa, groaning in agony.
Melissa, a posh college student, aged 20 loves walking. Long walks in mysterious places. Sometimes she'd walk for hours with just the sounds of the outdoors as company. She once lost herself in a field of trees, all looked the same. She only managed to find her way home because she saw the stars pointing towards a distance, she thought she'd look in that direction, then she found her pathway back.
Melissa stood still, looking at this grotesque figure that bentley looked at her. The figure climbed slowly to it's feet. Bending and cracking on it's way up. Melissa tried to scream, but nothing came out.
The figure stood tall over Melissa's petit body. Slowly the figure towered over Melissa and her legs began to quiver. Her body giving way. Melissa fell to her knees. The figure stood over Melissa, lifting it's arms around Melissa and covering her with his grotesque figure.
Melissa tries to scream again but to no avail. Her body falls weak, she hears bones break, cracking as it's figure pulls inwards. Her heart beats faster as she feels herself falling.
The figure groans with pleasure as he sucks her in to him, she's dying, slowly, painfully. She cries, silent tears, no one can hear her. She thinks to herself -all the things I haven't done, all the people I'll miss....- it grabs at her insides and pulls her apart. Her eyes become lifeless as she falls to the floor. The figure stands over her motionless body. It looks down on her and screams a screech of power and anger.
It walks, walks the same walk that Melissa no longer shall do anymore. Slowly moving past the dirty misty lake and into the small town of Hubbard hills.
The townspeople are friendly but strict people. They believe in laws. You break one and you're punished.
The dark still night floated in the sky in Hubbard hills on this Sunday evening. The figure moved through the town like a dictator. Roaming for feed. Slowly It raised it's arms in the air and showered a silence over the town. A horrible death silence. The darkness falling from the sky into the town, smothering it in black. The figure floating in the blackness, smiling behind it's disgusting face. The silence, the blackness took over this peaceful town of Hubbard hills.
People sometimes ask whether this story is true or not. People sometimes wonder if Melissa is real or not. Some people even mention the figure that loomed over Hubbard hills that night. What I will say is this, I sometimes dream of Hubbard hills and that figure and when I wake up I lay there, motionless. I try to scream but nothing. Like the presence for a few moments is with me and trying to make me suffer.
